San Fran Chronicle explains policy of NOT putting all of its Sunday print stories online, except in e-edition. Until later in the week. This is meant to build value for print. Right or wrong, some of the hudnreds of commenters there do not exactly agree -- some for classic environmental concerns. Three samples:
--Wow, the Chron actually wants to make money! That's how to do it, though if the articles come up to the usual standard, they probably aren't worth the price of admission. I'll just wait till someone leaves the e paper lying on the table after having coffee, thank you.
--While I understand your intention, it is flawed. Newspapers in a printed format are going away. I understand your wanting to keep your jobs and revenue stream. And I support that. I want local news, but on a local web site. Your beliefs that no one will pay for online news is off. You may have studies that say otherwise, but I'm sure there are many who would pay a modest annual fee for your content. I am one. (Modest = under $100).
--Paper is horrid for the planet and all its creatures in so many ways. all the fuel used to cut trees, the killing of the trees, the diesel trucks that carry all those dead trees to the far-away mill, the diesel trucks that carry all the paper from the mill to all over the country, the energy used by the printing press, and the chemicals, the fuel used to deliver all those papers, all the diesel trucks and ships carrying the papers for recycling in distant places, the energy used at recycling plants. all that air and water pollution and waste of fuel at every step in this horrendous process.
