It's unclear how long ago the structures were built, but records show that there are no tax assessments for the buildings. Property taxes were only paid on the land — and not the structures themselves.
The issue has attracted the attention of local tax officials who conducted a scheduled aerial survey of the property on Thursday. Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, says it is not the responsibility of property owners to report structures that go up on their land. But local assessor Dave Dunivan says owners are required by state law to report any omissions or errors in their tax assessments.
Didn't she have to get a building permit???
ReplyDeleteNo building permits necessary in that area.
ReplyDeleteLocal assessor did a fly over today and verified buildings on the site...the one in the photo that mudflats had plus another and a sauna too. Now the bigger question is not simply taxes but where did the Palins get all the money to buy that land, plus land and house on their dead lake plus buy the land and build a new house next to the original one in Wasilla? They also own other land.
You could say the new land and home came because of an advance for the book she didn't write(ghostwritten tome), however, the other land parcels and cabins/snowmachine building/sauna were all purchased years prior to that and construction on the so-called cabin et al was also begun prior. I think it's time for some investigations by reporters and maybe the IRS.
Oh no, you can't pick on Sarah!
