It appears to be great old-fashioned heroism that saved a Columbus, Ohio, family from a fire that broke out in their home. The heroes: two Columbus Dispatch carriers.
According to the paper’s Web site, Andrew Blakely and Benjamin Cox, Dispatch carriers, were in her southeastern Columbus community when they saw smoke shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.
"I initially thought it was a trash can on fire, but when we got to the house, we saw a car in the driveway pretty much engulfed in flames," Cox told the paper. He and Blakely helped Stephanie Powers, 40, along with her two daughters and her 7-month-old granddaughter, get out just before the fire spread to the one-story house.
"They definitely saved our lives," Stephanie Powers said. "We were all asleep and would've never known." -- Joe Strupp
