'The New York Times' Shakes Up 'The Local'

Big shake-ups at 'The Local,' The New York Times' hyperlocal sites launched less than a year ago.

First, the paper's New Jersey version - which covers Maplewood, Millburn, and South Orange - lost veteran Tina Kelley last month after she took a buyout. It has since been overseen by a temporary freelancer.

Now comes word that Andy Newman, who operated the Brooklyn site, is jumping to another job within the paper, running its City Room blog. He replaces Sewell Chan, who will join the Times' Washington, D.C., bureau.

With Newman gone, the Brooklyn 'Local' site will be overseen by the City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism, according to the Times' Media Decoder blog. --Joe Strupp
